NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Soccer team surrendered a 3-0 defeat this evening to visiting Simmons University under the lights at Joanne Merrill Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 2-11-2 and 0-9-1 in the conference while the Sharks improve to 3-11-1 overall, 3-7-0 in league play.

Simmons broke the scoreless tie in the 34th minute when freshman Izabella Warren (Hillsboro, N.H.) was able to corral a loose ball inside the 18' and bury it into the back of the net. It was Warren's 7th goal of the season and it gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead they would take into the locker room at halftime.

The Sharks would add to their lead late in the second half. Warren struck again, this time from about 35 yards out and tucked it into the upper right corner to make it 2-0 in the 77th minute. Less than a minute later, sophomore Gabby Cacia (Watertown, Mass.) perfectly placed her corner kick just inside the near-side post for her first goal of the season at 78:46.

Rivier senior goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) made seven saves on the night while her counterpart, Sharks freshman Melanie Coleman (Holliston, Mass.) stopped both shots she faced on net for her third clean sheet of the 2019 campaign.

The Raiders will return to action on Saturday evening as they host Lasell University in the annual Senior Night game at Joanne Merrill Field. Prior to the 5pm scheduled kickoff, the Women's Soccer program will honor the three seniors – Smith, Stephanie Case (Nashua, N.H.), Brittany Fletcher (Tewksbury, Mass.), Kassiana Gagnon (Windham, N.H.) and Keara Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) – with a short ceremony. Simmons will also be back in action this Saturday as they host the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a 12pm kickoff.
