Women's Recap

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Babson placed its five scorers in the top 11 to post a team total of 33 points and take top honors at the Ninth Annual Massachusetts Maritime Lt. Travis J. Fuller Women's Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal.

Junior Marina Capalbo (Gainesville, Va.) paced the victorious Beavers by taking top individual honors with a course record time of 18:25 over the three mile layout, while sophomore Kelli Halligan (Melrose, Mass.) was two spots back in third place with a time of 20:42. Sophomore April Goya (Oceanside, Calif.) was next for Babson with an eighth place time of 21:38, while the tandem of sophomore Katie Donovan (Darien, Conn.) and junior Rebekah Miller (Johnson, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the winners with respective finishes of 10th (21:58) and 11th (22:04) place.

Rivier took runner-up honors in the team competition with a score of 64 points, as senior Laura DeChristoforo (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Christina Dick (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted respective fourth (21:10) and sixth (21:25) individual finishes for the Raiders. Emerson claimed third place with a team score of 90 points, as the duo of junior Alison Doukas (Littleton, Mass.) and freshman Jenna Castro notched second (19:22) and seventh (21:29) place individual performances for the Lions, while sophomore Leigha Sweeney's (Braintree, Mass.) fifth place time of 21:21 helped Curry finish fourth in the team standings with 98 points.

Framingham State finished fifth in the final team standings with a score of 116 points, while Massachusetts Maritime (123) and Eastern Nazarene (163) followed in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Mount Ida, Newbury and Suffolk did not have team scores for the competition.

Senior Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) was the top individual runner for the host Buccaneers, as she placed 13th with a time of 22:14, while senior Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) and sophomore Dominique Dertien (Panama City, Fla.) followed in 20th and 26th place, respectively, with times of 23:00 and 23:43. Freshmen Kylie Foster (Sandwich, Mass.) and Celeste Menard (Annandale, Va.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime's scoring by finishing 33rd and 46th, respectively, with times of 24:20 and 25:57.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Biddeford, Maine next Saturday morning to compete in the University of New England Invitational that begins at 11:30 a.m.

Men's Recap

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Babson posted a perfect score of 15 points and placed seven runners in the top eight to capture the title at the Ninth Annual Massachusetts Maritime Lt. Travis J. Fuller Men's Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal.

Junior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.) took top individual honors and set a course record with a time of 26:54 over the five mile layout for the Beavers, while Babson seniors Brian deLeon (Princeton, N.J.), Nathan Kolman (Long Grove, Ill.) and AJ Skains (Colorado Springs, Colo.) followed in respective second, third and fourth places with times of 27:10, 28:08 and 28:12. Sophomore Ian MacLean (South Hamilton, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the winners by placing fifth with a time of 28:15, while sophomore Chris deLeon (Princeton, N.J.) and freshman Tim Hatzopoulos (Park Ridge, Ill.) recorded the other top individual performances for the Beavers with respective finishes of sixth (28:49) and eighth (29:08) place.

Massachusetts Maritime took runner up honors in the team competition a score of 66 points, as freshman James MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) and junior Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) posted respective ninth and 10th place individual performances with times of 29:30 and 29:54. Juniors Tyler Brady (Woburn, Mass.) and Godfred Mbengam (Randolph, Mass.) finished 15th and 16th, respectively, with times of 30:59 and 31:10 for the Buccaneers, who also received a 24th place individual finish (32:54) from senior Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Rivier senior Alec Davis (Amherst, N.H.) rounded out the top 10 individual performers in the event, as he finished seventh with a time of 29:05 while leading the Raiders to a third place team standing with 95 points. Emerson placed fourth in the final team standings with a score of 106 points, while Suffolk (142) and Eastern Nazarene (166) followed in fifth and sixth place. Newbury (169) and Mount Ida (195) rounded out the team scoring in seventh and eighth place, while Framingham State did not have a team score for the competition.
