NASHUA, N.H. – Neither team was able to score during overtime as the Rivier men's ice hockey tied with Alvernia, 2-2, on Saturday night at Conway Arena. The Raiders now sit at 0-1-1 after the weekend series, while Alvernia departs back for Pennsylvania with a 1-0-1 record.
Rivier's Jack Tos was the first to light the lamp in the contest at the 10:57 mark of the opening period, firing home a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle on a feed from Devon Jolley on the powerplay.
The Raiders once again took advantage of another powerplay opportunity as Cormac Hayes received a feed from Nicolas Paolucci as he entered the zone with a burst of speed and buried a shot from the same spot as Tos to extend the Raiders lead to 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Alvernia's Kyle Patton would score with 2:18 to play in the second period to cut the Golden Wolves' deficit to one goal with 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
Sean Kenny would tie the game up at 2-2 with 8:20 to play as he one-timed a feed from Kyle Patton at the top of the circle, which would force the game into overtime.
Despite the Raiders outshooting the Golden Wolves, 6-2, in the final five minutes, neither team could crack the deadlock and the game concluded in a tie.
Rivier netminder Will Augustine made 32 saves in the decision as Rivier outshot Alvernia, 38-34.
The Raiders finished 2-for-6 on the man advantage while killing all three Alvernia powerplays.
Family Weekend is next on tap for the Raiders who will host Mass. Liberal Arts on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 6:20 p.m. at Conway Arena before hosting Mass.-Dartmouth the following day at 2:50 p.m.
