Field Hockey: Raiders open up 2017 campaign at Fitchburg State

(Fitchburg, Mass.) The 2017 Rivier University Field Hockey season has officially gotten underway this evening as the Raiders traveled over to Fitchburg, Mass. for a season opening non-conference contest against Fitchburg State University. The Raiders were blanked by the Falcons with a 7-0 final.

Fitchburg State (1-0 overall) opened up the scoring in the first half with goals from Nicole Tocco and Rachael Denning. Denning would complete the hat trick in the second half with a pair of goals along with Bailey Miller, who netted the first two goals of the second stanza.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) started the game in net for the Raiders as she made twelve saves on sixteen shots faced. Classmate Erica Royle (Kingston, Mass.) played the final 20 minutes between the pipes and made four saves.

Fitchburg State's Kasey Mammone stopped all seven shots she faced on net for the win.

The Raiders will return to Nashua for the 2017 home opener on Thursday night against Bay Path University in a non-conference affair at Raider Field. Game time is set for 7pm.
