Field Hockey: Roth, Raiders come up short against Mount Ida

(Nashua, N.H.) Three late unanswered goals in the second half was the reason why the Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening, 6-3 to visiting Mount Ida College at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 1-4 (0-2 GNAC) while the Mustangs climb above .500 at 3-2 (1-1 GNAC).

The teams traded goals in the first half as both juniors Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Mikayla Ramsdell (Salem, N.H.) found the back of the net for Rivier. However Mound Ida senior Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and freshman Jennie Morey (Claremont, N.H.) knocked home a shot off a corner play after time expired in the first half to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead at the break.

Just over a minute into the second half, Rivier would find the equalizer as freshman Nicole Mansfield (Acton, Mass.) smacked home a pass from Roth to knot it a 3-3.

Junior Sarah Hemstock (Northford, Conn.) then gave Mount Ida the lead for good as she knocked home a loose ball in the 53rd minute and both Minicucci and freshman Erin Esty (Gorham, Maine) provided insurance goals within the final 1:30 of the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Foster (Lebanon, N.H.) was busy all night as she made seven saves on thirteen shots while her counterpart, sophomore Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine) was successful on three of the six shots she faced on net.

Rivier will travel to Elms College on Tuesday evening in their next scheduled contest. The non-conference matchup is set to start at 7pm. Mount Ida will also be in action on Tuesday as they host Bay Path University.
