Baseball picks up win number one; defeats Eastern Nazarene 9-2

(Watertown, Mass.) The Rivier University Baseball team finally cracked the win column this afternoon as they took down Eastern Nazarene College, 9-2 in a non-conference contest at Victory Field in Watertown. The Raiders are now 1-11 on the season while the Lions dip to 5-6.

Senior Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.) earned the win on the hill as he allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings of work. The veteran right-hander also struck out six Lions while issuing just one walk. Senior Spencer Aguiar (Malden, Mass.) was credited with the save as he spun three scoreless innings in relief.

Freshman Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) went 3-for-6 at the plate and his bases clearing triple in the fifth gave the Raiders the lead for good. Sophomore Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) also went 3-for-6 with a stolen base and junior Jacob Rayner (Billerica, Mass.) collected three RBI in the win.

Eastern Nazarene saw John Greenlee and Colton Rice register two hits apiece on the afternoon. Connor Simpson suffered the loss allowing four runs in just 0.1 innings of work.

Rivier will be back in action on Sunday morning as they travel to Campanelli Stadium down in Brockton, Mass. for an 11am non-conference tilt with Emerson College.
