Raiders On The Front Lines: Britney (Lane) Bigelow '14

Story written and posted by Anthony Perry, Rivier University Sports Information Director

NASHUA, N.H. – “Raiders on the Front Lines” is a collection of stories detailing how our Raiders are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. These stories are first-hand journal entries from our current or former student-athletes that are working in hospitals across the country.

Today we are highlighting former Women’s Basketball student-athlete, Britney (Lane) Bigelow. She graduated from Rivier with her BSN in 2014 and went on to earn her MSN: Family Nurse Practitioner from Rivier this past January. Britney was a four-year member of the Women’s Basketball program, appearing in 83 career games and scoring 341 career points.

Britney currently works in the Labor and Delivery Department at Littleton Regional Healthcare in Littleton, New Hampshire.

In her own words:

“Terrified, stressed, anxious – are three words that have never come closer to explaining how I've felt over the last few weeks. COVID-19 is always on my mind. I have worked at a critical access hospital in northern New Hampshire, mostly on the labor and delivery unit since graduating from Rivier in 2014. Never did I think I would be preparing to isolate Mothers from their newborns to prevent mothers from passing the potentially deadly virus onto their newborns. Unfortunately, that is the reality.

Medical facilities, like my place of employment, are working closely with the New Hampshire Health Department and Center of Disease Control to keep everyone safe – staff included. This is new and it is utterly frightening. The love and support people are showing for essential workers during this time has warmed my heart. Please do your part and practice social distancing, so we (healthcare workers) can do our part and take the best care of patients like we’ve been trained to do.”
