Softball: Rivier sweeps Fisher , 12-3 & 11-3

(Nashua, N.H.) For the first time since March 9th, the Rivier University Softball team returned to action tonight with a double-header sweep of visiting Fisher College on the turf at Raider Field. The Raiders are now 3-9 on the season while the Falcons stumble to 0-11. These same two teams will be back on the turf tomorrow evening with another double-header scheduled for a 5pm start time.

Game One: Rivier University 12, Fisher College 3 (Final)

A six-run fourth was the dagger as the Raiders earned the game one win in a 12-3 mercy rule shortened five inning game. The Falcons struck first with a run in the top of the first then Rivier stormed back with three runs in the home half to take command for good.

Sophomore Tayla LeGrand (Tewksbury, Mass.) smacked her first career home run in the first inning, a two run shot down the right field line. She finished the first game going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI. Junior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) also was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI while classmate Jess Silva (Tewksbury, Mass.) added two RBI of her own on her 1-for-3 showing.

Sophomore Courtney Trahan (Brooklyn, Conn.) improved to 1-0 as she went the distance inside the circle as she allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and struckout one without issuing a walk.

Fisher's Taylor Rowely was saddled with the loss as she gave up 12 runs, 10 earned, on 10 hits while striking out four batters. Britni Walker and Mikayla Zimmerman each had two-hit games for the Falcons.

Game Two: Rivier University 11, Fisher College 3 (Final)

Freshman Kellie Kennedy (Hudson, N.H.) was dazzling as she retired the first and the only nine hitters she faced as the Raiders took game two by an 11-3 final in a mercy-rule shortened five inning game. Kennedy stuckout three hitters in her three innings of work. Sophomore Taylor Rowsell (Chelmsford, Mass.) spun the last two frames allowing three runs on four hits while issuing a walk and three strikeouts.

Offensively junior Kerri Hegarty (Tewksbury, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and senior Evelyn Susko (Hudson, N.H.) added two hits and a RBI of her own in the win. Freshman Julia Dailey (Dracut, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a RBI and two stolen bases out of the leadoff spot as the Raiders totaled 11 hits.

Rowley was the offensive star for the Falcons in game two as she went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. She also was the pitcher of record as she allowed all 11 runs, only four of which were earned, in 4.1 innings pitched.
