#6 Raiders are #1 in NCAA for Blocks per Set

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball team accomplished a lot during the 2013 season, including their sixth straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Today, the NCAA announced that the team has yet another championship to add to their impressive season, the 2013 NCAA Division III Statistical Champion for Blocks per Set.

Rivier registered an impressive 2.62 Blocks per Set as they had 348 total blocks over the 133 sets played.

The team was led by AVCA All-American junior Aaron Almario (Alhambra, California) who had a total of 137 blocks this past season (1.22 BPS). Also recording 100+ total blocks was junior Terence Matatall (Danville, NH) who registered 113 total blocks while being named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team.

Senior Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) recorded 73 total blocks as he capped an incredible senior campaign in which he was the GNAC Player of the Year and was honored as the University's Male Athlete of the Year.

With an overall record of 27-12, the Raiders were able to return to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball National Championships were they knocked off Juniata College in the National Quarterfinal before succumbing to the host school, Nazareth College in the National Semifinals. The Raiders finished as the 6th best team according to the final AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 National Poll.
