Men’s Lacrosse Falls Short to Saints

NASHUA, NH: Rivier men's lacrosse lost to Emmanuel College this evening in conference play on Joanne Merrill Field.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/21/23

- Score: Emmanuel 9, Rivier 8

- Records: Rivier (4-2, 0-1 GNAC), Emmanuel (4-3, 2-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the first quarter at 12:39, Ryan Castle of Emmanuel scored the first goal. Colin Dickinson quickly put the Saints up 2-0 with about 11 minutes still to play. Raiders' Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) answered back with nifty goal and an assist credited to Coby Mercier (Boscawen, NH). Thomas Quigley finished out the quarter with another goal for Emmanuel.

- Cole Cloney got the scoring started with a Saints goal and an assist granted to Robert Favuzza. About 30 seconds later, Michael Ference (Salem, NH) was able to find Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA) who rocketed in a Rivier goal. Eck scored his second goal of the game at 9:16 in the second quarter. Ference put away a man up goal with an assist from Jeffery Potter (North Bennington, VT) to tie the score at 4-4. Emmanuel's Favuzza fired in a man down goal to end the half.

- Riv came out strong in the third quarter, scoring three goals in a row. Potter with a man up goal and an assist credited to Eck at 14:32. Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) earned an unassisted goal giving the Raiders the lead, 6-5. Heitmiller to Ference who buried another Rivier goal. Emmanuel was able to get two goals back, Dickinson from Cole Cloney and then an unassisted goal from Derek Delvecchio.

- The Raiders had a few turnovers in the fourth quarter that cost them. Cloney escaped the Riv defenders to score a Saints goal at 12:49 on the clock. Quigley increased Emmanuel's lead by two and scored his second goal of the contest. Ference recorded the final Rivier goal with an assist from Potter, earning a hat trick this evening.

- Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) saved 20 shots tonight for the Raiders. Randy Castle of the Saints had 13 saves, taking the win.

- Shots: Emmanuel 47, Rivier 38

- Ground Balls: Emmanuel 39, Rivier 27

- Penalties: Emmanuel 6 minutes on 6 infractions, Rivier 1 minute 30 seconds on 2 infractions
