(Portland, Maine) The Rivier University Field Hockey team opened up their Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests this evening at Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a 5-0 loss at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Friday evening. The Raiders slide to 1-3 on the year, 0-1 in conference, while the Monks improve to 2-1, 2-0 GNAC.
Saint Joseph's got on the board in the first half when Hayley Winslow knocked home a pass from Maddy Beaullieu at 14:36. That would be the only first half goal thanks in large part to Rivier junior netminder Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) stopped eleven of the 12 shots she saw over the first 35.
The Monks offensive attack continued in the final frame as the pelted another 17 shots, 10 of which on net and four that found the back on the net.
Foster finished the evening with 17 saves on 22 shots. SJC's Megan Baker stopped the only shot she faced for the win.
Rivier will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host New England College in a non-conference contest at Raider Field.
