2015 Season Preview: Field Hockey
(Nashua, N.H.) The 2015 Rivier University Field Hockey will begin the season with excitement and expectations. The Raiders are returning nine student-athletes from the 2014 squad along with welcoming nine incoming student-athletes this fall.
The team will be led by senior Rebecca Melvin (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen) both on the defensive line and in the locker room. Also providing depth up top will be goal scoring juniors Brittani Garza (Alexandria, Va. / Hayfield Secondary), Chelsea Gomes (Epsom, N.H. / Pembroke Academy) and Chelsie Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H. / Salem). Sophomores Marykate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee Comprehensive) and Leah Ingalls (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen) have shown great ability in the middle of the field and bring great passion for the game.
Leading the group of the new incoming student-athletes will be freshman goalies Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H. / Lebanon) and Stevie Charest (Lisbon,Maine / Lisbon). Both Foster and Charest have an understanding of the game, standout skills and will communicate to the defense from their position in net for the Raiders. Sophomore classmates Emily Knoops (Tewsbury, Mass. / Shawsheen Tech), Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury), Jordan Parece (Pelham, N.H. / Pelham) and Hailey Reed (Nashua, N.H. / Nashua), will be immediate contributors in 2015 as they have shown strength with their ball control along with their understanding of the game. Freshmen Megan Sheltry (Dalton, N.H. / Whiter Mountains Regional), Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass. / Tyngsboro) and Mikayla Ramsdell (Salem, N.H. / Salem) will provide depth both offensively and defensively as they are adjusting very quickly to the college game. The student-athletes have all shown great skill and enthusiasm throughout pre-season camp and will carry it over into the regular season.
The 2015 Rivier University Field Hockey team will open their season on September 4th against Castleton State College.
