Softball swept by Saint Joseph's (Me.) in GNAC Double-Header

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Softball fell to visiting Saint Joseph's College of Maine this afternoon, 13-1 and 5-3 in a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests held at Raider Diamond. The losses send the Raiders' overall record to 7-13 with a 2-8 conference mark while the Monks stand tall at 13-11 overall, 8-4 GNAC.

Game One: Saint Joseph's College 13, Rivier University 1 (Final/6 innings)

The Monks pounded out 16 hits as they earned the 13-1, mercy shortened victory in game one of the day's double-header.

Senior Sam Verney (Goffstown, N.H.) was the lone Raider to record multiple hits as she went a perfect 2-for-2 and junior Nicole Scotti (Concord, N.H.) added a 1-for-2 showing to account for all of the Rivier hits off of Erica Boulanger.

Boulanger spun the complete game victory with seven innings of work allowing just those three hits and surrendering one run while striking out ten.

Offensively, the Monks enjoyed a day from both Jennifer Murphy and Megan Pollini. Both went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Mariah Harrison added her own three RBI with a 2-for-3 afternoon. Carla Tripp also collected three hits and three runs scored as the Monks rolled to their second consecutive GNAC win.

Senior Jessica Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.) suffered the loss with six innings allowing 13 runs – six earned – on 16 hits and striking out two.

Game Two: Saint Joseph's College 5, Rivier University 3 (Final)

The final game of the afternoon was a much tighter contest as the Raiders fell 5-3 to the Monks.

Senior Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) allowed just five runs on twelve hits over her complete game effort. Freshman Mikayla Ramsdell (Salem, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and senior Lia Bobek (Hollis, N.H.) was a perfect 2-for-2 with a stolen base in the loss for Rivier.

Kylie McFadden got the start inside the circle for Saint Joseph's and threw 4.2 inning giving up two runs on four hits. Jennelle Thompson came in and earned the save with 2.1 innings of work, allowing one unearned run on four hits.

Katherine Collette went 2-for-2 with a RBI while Tripp, Pollini and Meghan Elliott each contributed two hits apiece in the 12 hit attack. Murphy plated two more RBI to bring her daily total to five.

Both teams will be back in conference action tomorrow afternoon. Rivier will be on the road to battle Simmons College and the Monks will host the University of Saint Joseph in the "Coaches vs Cancer" game in Standish.
