#1 Men's Volleyball sweeps GNAC Weekly Honors, again

(Boston, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recently announced that three members of the top-ranked Rivier University Men's Volleyball team have been awarded with the GNAC's Weekly Honors.

Junior Chris Markuson (Cupertino, CA) was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week as he helped lead the Raiders to three wins, including a dramatic five set win at #2 Springfield College. The 6-5 outside hitter put down 40 kills in just 12 sets to average 3.33 kills per set all while chipping in with 8 block solos and 11 digs. Markuson highlighted his week with a 15 kill, .636 hitting percentage, 4 block performance in a four set win over Wentworth.

Senior Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY) was solid again defensively for Rivier as he was named the GNAC's Defensive Player of the Week. He scooped up 28 digs in 12 sets (2.33 dig per set average) over his three games played. Bynon dug a week high 11 digs in the team's four set win against Wentworth.

Freshman Tyler Blank (Rochester, NY) has been named the GNAC's Rookie of Week after directing the offensive attack for the #1 Raiders. In just 12 sets played, the Rookie dished out 112 assists and was just as impressive defensively as the 6-footer recorded 12 blocks for a respective 9.33 assists per set average and 1.00 blocks per set average. Blank saved his best for the last game of the week with 50 assists and 7 blocks in a five set win at #2 Springfield College.

This is the second time in four weeks that Rivier has swept the Weekly Honors as senior Aaron Almario (Alhambria, CA) joined Bynon and Blank in the Week Two version of the honors.

The Men's Volleyball team will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Boston, Mass for an 8pm GNAC contest at Emmanuel College.
