Nick Walch named GNAC Player of the Week

(Boston, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced their weekly honors and Rivier University senior Nick Walch was selected as the GNAC's Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Walch, a 6-1 hybrid (Guard/Forward), helped lead the Raiders to a 2-1 week with an impressive Tip-Off Tournament to cap it off.

In the week's first game against Plymouth State University, the Dedham, Massachusetts native was 5-for-10 from the floor – good enough for a team high 14 points in the 73-61 loss.

He stepped it up when the Raiders hosted the 20th annual Rivier University Tip Off Tournament. In the first game against Saint Joseph's College of Long Island – a 66-49 Rivier win – he totaled an impressive 18 rebounds to go along with his 15 points. Walch was 5-for-12 from the field with a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. In the Championship game against Enidcott College he combined for 23 points and 17 rebounds as the Raiders claimed the title for the first time since 2010. He made the play of the night when he was able to deflect a loose ball of an Endicott defender which allowed the team to run the final play with 1.4 seconds remaining. Rivier won on a buzzer beating 3-pointer 86-83.

This is the first time in the three plus seasons that Walch has been named GNAC Player of the Week.
