Volleyball Stays Perfect in Conference Play

NORTHFIELD, VT: The Rivier University women's volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play this afternoon with another tri-match sweep of GNAC opponents. They took down Norwich University and Saint Joseph's College with scores of 3-0 for both contests.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 10/9/2021

- Score: Rivier 3, Norwich 0: Set Scores (25-19, 25-20, 25-20). Rivier 3, SJC 0: Set Scores (25-12, 25-9, 25-15)

- Records: Norwich (6-6, 0-4 GNAC), SJC (6-12, 3-1 GNAC), Rivier (9-5, 6-0 GNAC)

MATCH ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders paced the way behind the deadly combo of Lily Sills (Carlisle, MA) and Lily Blodgett (Dunstable, MA). Combined, the two hitters tallied 26 kills. Blodgett ended the match with the game high of 15 kills, with Sills finishing just behind her with 11.

-  Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) put up another 31 assists this afternoon to put her season total at 479.

- Olivia Garand (Litchfield, NH) and Sofia Pawlusik (Burnt Hills, NY) both held the Rivier defense together with stellar performances. Garand ended with a match high in digs with 15, while Pawlusik finished with 13.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Kills: Rivier 41, Norwich 23 

-  Assists: Rivier 34, Norwich 22

-  Digs: Rivier 47, Norwich 33

MATCH TWO

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Raiders made quick work of the Monks in the second match allowing their opponent to score just 36 total points.

- Blodget again finished with the match high with nine kills and three blocks. Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, CT) added another five kills to Rivier's total.

- Leah Giampietro (Coventry, RI) led the defense in match two with seven digs to go along with her three service aces.

- Rivier women's volleyball will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to GNAC newcomer Elms College for a 7 pm match.
