Second Half Surge Sends Women’s Soccer Past Dean, 4-0

NASHUA, N.H. – Rivier women's soccer used a four-goal second-half effort to run past the Dean Bulldogs, 4-0, on Wednesday night at Merrill Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Raiders now sit at 9-4-3 (8-3-2 GNAC) on the season, while Dean dropped to 4-9-2 (3-8-2 GNAC) with the loss. With the victory, the Raiders tied the program record for GNAC victories in a season with eight, which was set in the 1999 season.

After a scoreless first half in which Rivier outshot Dean 12-6, the hosts would score on their first shot of the second half as Emily Lizotte used a soft touch to find Jordan Butters who slotted in a shot from the penalty spot to boost her team to a 1-0 lead.

Just over two minutes later, Lizotte scored an unassisted goal to double the Raiders' lead, slotting in a left-footed shot from the left side of the box.

A Dean foul gave Rivier a free kick from the top of the box, Jillian Arigo took advantage of the opportunity by shooting the ball off the far post and in for her first collegiate goal, boosting the lead to three goals with 33 minutes remaining in regulation.

Seconds later, Paige Barnes put the ball into space for Butters who shimmied to the left and banged in a goal between the left post and the Dean keeper to tally the final goal of the contest.

The Raiders outshot the Bulldogs, 25-8, over 90 minutes of play. Dean's keeper Haley Gaunt made nine saves in the loss, while Bri Nugent (4 saves) and Maya Puma combined for the shutout. Rivier earned 10 corners to Dean's one.

Rivier will play its regular season home finale on Saturday, Oct. 21 as the Raiders play host to GNAC foe JWU-Providence at 11:00 a.m. at Merrill Field.
