Women’s Soccer Draws with Regis on Senior Day

NASHUA, N.H. — The Rivier women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Regis this afternoon at home on Merrill Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Prior to the game, the Raiders (8-2-3, 7-1-2 GNAC) celebrated their two seniors, Shannon O'Toole and Julia Cafferty, along with three graduate students, Jillian Arigo, Jordan Butters, and Emily Lizotte.

Riv's Olivia Maxwell shocked the Pride (4-4-4, 3-4-4 GNAC) with a quick goal in the opening 1:20 of the contest, generated by a steal and through ball from Butters.

Regis would go on to bury two goals over a span of seven minutes late in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. Delaney Scanlon recorded the Pride's first goal to tie the score at 1-1 with an assist from Meadow Comeiro off a corner kick. Following this, Samantha Perkins was blocked by Riv goalkeeper Bri Nugent, but was able to regain possession to tap in an unassisted goal to take the lead.

With just under four minutes to play, with the rain now steadily coming down on the turf, Butters capitalized on the Pride's mishandled ball to reach the back of the net, tying the match at 2-2 with an assist from Maxwell. The score would remain until the final whistle.

Regis outshot the Raiders 20-9, also collecting eight corner kicks to Rivier's two.

Nugent made eight saves in net for the Raiders this afternoon.

The Raiders will be back on home turf on Tuesday, Oct. 10, kicking off at 7:00 p.m. in GNAC action against Colby-Sawyer.
