Women’s Soccer Downs Anna Maria, 3-0

PAXTON, Mass. – The Rivier women's soccer team used three separate goal scorers to help push them past Anna Maria, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Wednesday afternoon at Caparso Field. The Raiders have now won two games in a row and improved their record to 8-2-2 (7-1-1 GNAC), while the AMCATS fall to 0-10-1 (0-9-0 GNAC) on the season. The Raiders now sit one conference win away from tying the program single-season record, which was set in the 1999 season.

Elisabeth Jacob got the scoring underway in just the third minute when she found herself clear of the AMCATS defense at the back post and slotted her shot into the back of the net from a Jordan Butters corner-kick to put the Raiders up 1-0. It wouldn't take long for Butters to tally a goal of her own as she swiftly worked around the AMCATS defense and curled her shot past the outstretched arms of the AMCATS goalkeeper to advance the Raiders lead to 2-0 in the 19th minute.

The Raiders would score the third and final goal in the 48th minute when Kaylee Magoon intercepted a pass at the top of the box and used a rollover to create space for a shot where she found the bottom left corner of the goal.

The Raiders goalkeeping duo of Bri Nugent and Maya Puma totaled seven saves in the contest to complete the team's sixth clean sheet of the season.

The victory marked Rivier's first win over Anna Maria since Oct. 3, 2018.

The Raiders will continue GNAC play in a home match that will honor the seniors on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when they host Regis at 5:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
