Women’s Soccer Draws with USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – In a highly-contested Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle, Rivier women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Tuesday night at the USJ Athletics Complex. Both teams entered the game second in the GNAC standings, with league ledgers of 5-1-0. The Raiders now possess an overall record of 6-2-1 while the Blue Jays sit at 5-3-1 on the season.

Kaylee Magoon broke the deadlock on her fourth goal of the season with less than eight minutes left in the first half, tapping in her own rebound following a feed from Elizabeth Jacob. At the break, USJ outshot Riv by a slim margin of 4-3.

In the 76th minute, Marisa Brough scored her first goal of the season on a Jelly Frigo assist to equalize for the Blue Jays. The Raiders were unable to register a shot on goal in the second half as the teams played to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bri Nugent made four saves in the game. Saint Joseph recorded four corner kicks to Rivier's one.

The Raiders will step away from GNAC play for a Thursday afternoon road game at Nichols. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. from the Nichols Soccer Field.
