Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Elms, Extends Win Streak to Six

NASHUA, N.H. - The Rivier women's soccer team continued its winning streak with a 2-0 victory at home over Elms on Wednesday night at Merrill Field, collecting their sixth-consecutive victory and fifth straight in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With the win, the Raiders now sit at 6-1-0 (5-0-0 GNAC) while the Blazers dropped to 4-3-0 (3-2-0 GNAC) in the setback.

After a scoreless first half, Emily Lizotte broke open the score in the 50th minute in the second half off a free kick, launching a header over Elm's goalkeeper Gianna Liquori, with an assist credited to Kaylee Magoon.

Just over five minutes later, Samantha Franks dribbled past the Blazers' defenders and tumbled over Liquori to nudge in her first goal as a Raider to double the Rivier lead. The Rivier defense was able to shut down the Blazers during the final 34:18 to secure goalkeeper Bri Nugent's first collegiate shutout.

Rivier outshot the Blazers by one, 13 to 12, in the contest, with Nugent making six saves in her fourth victory of the season.

The six wins to start the season are the first time in the Rivier women's soccer program history that the Raiders have won six games in a row since 2016. Out of those six victories, five are GNAC conference wins, tying the program record for most conference wins in program history since 2011. The triumph also marked the first time the Raiders had defeated Elms in their third ever meeting.

The Raiders will travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m. in another GNAC match at Celentano Field.
