Women’s Soccer Downs Mitchell 2-0, Extends Win Streak to Five

NASHUA N.H. - Rivier women's soccer team pushed past Mitchell as they earned their fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season at home on Merrill Field on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders (5-1-0, 4-0-0 GNAC) are now on a five-game win streak, while the Mariners pick up their third straight loss (2-3-1, 0-3-1 GNAC). This was the first game against Mitchell all-time, making the Raiders 1-0.

Jordan Butters quickly got Rivier on the board just under four minutes into the first half, generated by Samantha Franks who received a throw-in and was able to gather it to find Butters for the early score. Butters obtained her third goal in three straight games, to lead the Raiders with nine points.

Nearly 11 minutes into the first half, the Raiders' Jillian Arigo took a corner kick, connecting with Elisabeth Jacob who completed a textbook header to the left of Mitchell's goalkeeper, Gemma Landry, scoring her first goal of the season, and putting Riv up 2-0.

Rivier continued to gain possession and limit the Mariners from shooting, yielding a scoreless second half for both teams.

Rivier goalkeeper Bri Nugent made one save in the first half with Maya Puma making a save in the second to combine for the shutout, the third of the season for the Raiders.

The Raiders dominated the Mariners in the shot section, getting 18 shots off versus Mitchell's five shots. Riv had seven corner kick opportunities, earning a goal from one, while the Mariners only had one opportunity from the corner.

The Raiders are back at Merrill Field on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in GNAC action facing the Blazers of Elms College, with a kick-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
