Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Anna Maria on Senior Day, 14-5

NASHUA, N.H. – On a Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field honoring the five members of the Rivier women's lacrosse graduating class, the Raiders cruised past Anna Maria by a final score of 14-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division action.

The Raiders improved to 6-6 (3-5 GNAC) while the AMCATS fell to 3-8 (2-6 GNAC).

Rivier raced out to a 6-0 lead after the first period with Caitlin Newell capping the frame off with a natural hat trick over a 7:41 span.

The Raiders' advantage improved to nine goals by halftime as they outscored Anna Maria, 5-2, in the second quarter. Sarah Lachance capped off her hat trick on a free position shot at 9:37 as one of four goals scored in the quarter.

Anna Maria could muster just two goals in the second half as Rivier coasted to victory.

LaChance finished with eight points on six goals and two assists, followed by Newell's five goals and two assists. Ashley Wilder had two goals and six ground balls while Sofia Cebrero and Bailey Carroll each tacked on one goal. Cassie Hemmerdinger had eight draw controls, seven ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Five ground balls and two caused turnovers were credited to Briana Paxson.

Lindsey Kruger played the opening 35:18 in the victory before Lily Gifford came on to close it out.

Rivier went 15-for-18 on the clear as Anna Maria turned the ball over 34 times. The Raiders won the ground ball battle, 33-23, while securing 13 of the 23 draws.

Next up, the Raiders will travel to face Dean in a GNAC clash at Grant Field on Tuesday, April 16 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
