Women’s Lacrosse Grabs 20-11 Victory Over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. — The Rivier women's lacrosse team downed Lasell on the road, 20-11, claiming its second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season on Tuesday evening at Grellier Field. 

The Raiders moved to 5-4 overall (2-3 GNAC), with Lasell falling to 4-5 on the season and winless through four conference matchups. 

Riv quickly jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Of four different Raider goal scorers in the first, Sofia Cebrero totaled three while Caitlin Newell scored two. Sarah Lachance and Ashley Wilder added on a goal apiece for Rivier. 

Both squads recorded five goals in the second quarter, but the Lasers still trailed the Raiders 12-6 at the half. Rachel Hinkley recorded her first goal of the game on a free position shot at 8:12. Cebrero and Lachance each added on goals, increasing the Raiders lead to 10-4 before two goals from Chiara Skeels would finish up the half for the Raiders. 

The Raiders were scoreless in the third quarter, while Lasell's Kaitlin Bedell notched two unassisted goals to cut the Lasers' deficit to two. 

Rivier pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Lasell 8-3 in the frame. Bailey Carroll earned her first goal of the game on a man-up advantage just over one minute into the quarter. Lachance and Hinkley each grabbed two goals apiece. Cebrero, Newell, and Skeels all tallied a goal each. 

Lindsey Kruger made 11 saves in net for Rivier. Cebrero recorded five goals on the day and two ground balls and Lachance with four goals, two assists, eight draw control victories, and two ground balls. Cassie Hemmerdinger contributed with five draw controls and three ground balls, while causing one turnover.  

Up next, the Raiders are headed home to Merrill Field on Saturday, April 6 to take on Emmanuel (Mass.) in a GNAC divisional contest with a start time set for 12:00 p.m.
