Norwich Holds Off Women’s Lacrosse, 15-11

NORTHFIELD, Vt.– Rivier women's lacrosse fell to Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Saturday evening by a final score of 15-11 at Sabine Field.

The Raiders fell to 2-2 (0-2 GNAC) while the Cadets moved to 3-1 (2-0 GNAC).

Norwich would get out to a 4-1 lead 10:50 into the first quarter with four different goal scorers getting in on the action. Riv would battle back to cut the deficit to one at the end of the opening period.

Caitlyn Fielder scored two of Norwich's three second-quarter goals as the hosts blanked Rivier to take an 8-4 lead into the half.

Ashley Wilder scored a man-up goal 1:31 into the second half followed by a Sarah Lachance strike to make it a two-goal game. The Cadets responded with a three-goal swing over the final minutes of the third to make it 11-6 with 15 minutes to play.

Despite a five-goal output in the fourth, the Raiders were unable to slow the Cadets' offense enough to catch up.

Both Bailey Carroll and Sofia Cebrero registered hat tricks for the Raiders in the loss.

The Raiders caused 17 of Norwich's 25 turnovers in the contest.

Rivier returns to the friendly confines of Merrill Field on Tuesday, March 19 as they take on VTSU Castleton in a non-conference clash beginning at 5:00 p.m.
