Parent’s Goal Lifts Women’s Ice Hockey Over MCLA, 3-2

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team began the final weekend of the regular-season with a 3-2 victory over MCLA in Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) action on Saturday evening at Foote Memorial Rink.

The Raiders advanced to 11-9-3 (6-3-2 ECHA) while the Trailblazers fell to 4-16-1 and remain winless in league play.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, MCLA scored just 3:43 into the second period on a powerplay strike by Summer Bissaillion. Rivier would answer with a powerplay goal of its own just 2:17 later as Jessica Driscoll lit the lamp to tie the game at 1-1.

In the opening minutes of the third, Mason Puumala picked a good time to score a first collegiate goal as it put the guests up by a goal, 2-1.

The Trailblazers would equalize under five minutes later, this time with Carlen Bertrand lighting the lamp.

Just over a minute later, Brianna Parent found the back of the net with help from Rebecca McKelvey & Caeli Reed to put the Raiders back on top for good.

Rivier outshot MCLA, 39-28, with Riv's netminder Rachel Hinkley making 26 stops in her fourth victory of the campaign.

The Raiders went a perfect 1-for-1 on the advantage while killing off two of the three penalties taken in the contest.

Rivier is looking to sweep both the weekend and season series against MCLA on Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Tsongas Center at 2:00 p.m.
