Women’s Ice Hockey Handles MCLA, 3-0

NASHUA, N.H. – In a return to Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) play, the Rivier women's ice hockey team scored in all three periods to down MCLA in shutout fashion on Friday night at Conway Arena, 3-0, in game one of the home-and-home series.

The Raiders moved to 6-8-3 (1-2-2 ECHA) while the Trailblazers fell to 4-13-0 overall and remain in search of their first league victory.

Rivier scored 6:01 into the first period when Tia Picardi dangled past a defender and tucked a shot past Katie O'Brien in net to put the Raiders up 1-0.

Molly Dukesherer would add to Rivier's lead with 1:35 left in the second as she ripped a shot off O'Brien's mask that trickled through the crease and past the goal line to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team.

In the third, the Raiders would make it a three-goal lead on the powerplay as Brianna Rumptz tipped in a shot by Briana Paxson with 11:17 left in regulation.

Rivier outshot MCLA, 35-27, as Rachel Symmes recorded her second shutout of the season and third of her career making 27 saves.

Rivier went 1-for-2 on the powerplay, while the Trailblazers went scoreless on four player-advantages.

Both teams will face off again on Saturday, Jan. 27 in a 5:00 p.m. puck drop at Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Skating Rink.
