Women’s Ice Hockey Drops 4-1 Decision to Western New Eng.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team was bested by Western New Eng. in a Friday night matchup at the Olympia Ice Center, 4-1.

The Raiders dropped to 4-8-3 on the campaign while the host Golden Bears climbed to 10-4-2 overall.

It took until 13:46 of the first period for the first goal to be scored as WNE's Jenna Lynch found the back of the net to give her team the lead.

The Golden Bears would tack on two additional goals in the second period, with one coming on their lone powerplay opportunity, to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Maddie Pope scored with 9:50 remaining to put her team up by four before Rivier's Paige Anger responded 1:33 later to nullify the shutout bid for WNE's Luciana Robertelli.

Robertelli earned her second victory of the campaign, making 17 saves. Rivier's Rachel Symmes made 48 stops in the loss as Rivier was outshot 52-18.

Rivier was unable to convert on either of its two powerplay tries.

The Raiders look to right the ship in a return home on Saturday, Jan. 20 as they host Albertus Magnus on Youth Hockey Night at Conway Arena with a puck drop scheduled for 6:50 p.m.
