Women’s Ice Hockey Shut Out by Anna Maria

WORCESTER, Mass. – Despite putting 41 shots on net over 60 minutes, the Rivier women's ice hockey team fell in Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) action to Anna Maria by a final score of 3-0 on Tuesday night at Buffone Arena.

The Raiders dropped to 4-7-3 (0-2-2 ECHA) on the season while the AMCATS improved to 4-8-3 (4-1-1 ECHA) on the campaign.

Anna Maria broke open the scoring 9:22 into the first as Tessa Henry fired a shot from the left point that managed to get through traffic and into the net to put the hosts up 1-0.

The AMCATS lead doubled 7:16 into the second as Shayla MacDonald buried a feed from Jordyn Bleaney on a 2-on-1 opportunity. Just over three minutes later, Olympia Myers scored what would be the final tally of the contest to add insurance.

Graduate goaltender Sam Dahill would make 41 stops for Anna Maria to earn her second shutout of the season. In the opposite crease, Rachel Symmes of Riv turned aside 15 of the AMCATS' 18 shots.

Neither team was able to strike on powerplay opportunities as Rivier went 0-for-3 and Anna Maria went 0-for-2.

Rivier will hit the road again next Friday, Jan. 19 in a road tilt at Western New England with a 7:50 p.m. puck drop at Olympia Ice Center.
