Albertus Magnus Downs Women’s Hockey, 5-3

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team fell in non-league play against Albertus Magnus on Friday night at Conway Arena, dropping the contest by a final score of 5-3.

The Raiders fell to 4-3-2 (0-1-2 ECHA) while the win marked the first for the Falcons in program history.

Rivier got the scoring going less than two minutes into the opening frame when Ellie Grady rifled a shot over Christmas Johnson's shoulder to take a 1-0 lead, with assists credited to Molly Hurley and Jillian Hallee. After a Rivier roughing penalty, the Falcons scored their first of the game, tying the score at 1-1, as Kayla Clark fired a slap shot past Rachel Symmes for a powerplay goal. Later, with the period winding down, Albertus' Tori Walsh snuck in a shot from just outside the crease before the buzzer sounded to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. Christmas made 12 saves on 13 shots in the period.

The Falcons would double their lead 12:17 into the second period as Walsh tucked in her second consecutive goal as she collected a shot from the point out in front of the net and wristed one in. Molly Dukesherer would respond just 15 seconds later with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle to cut the Raiders' deficit to one goal.

30 seconds into the third period, Isabella Contreras of Albertus added an insurance goal as she one-timed a feed from Walsh to make it 4-2. In an effort to tie the game, Paige Anger scored off a rebound out in front with 8:08 left in regulation to once again make it a one-goal affair. The late strike would not be enough, however, and Walsh tucked in an empty netter to complete her hat trick and secure the Falcons' first win.

Johnson finished with 32 saves in her first victory while Symmes made 18 stops for Rivier. Albertus Magnus went 1-for-2 on the powerplay while the Raiders were shut down on their three opportunities.

Rivier and Albertus Magnus will complete the home-and-home in an 8:00 p.m. matchup on Saturday at Ralph Walker Ice Rink in New Haven, Conn.
