Symmes Earns Shutout in Women’s Ice Hockey’s 3-0 Win Over JWU-Providence

NASHUA, N.H. – Rivier women's ice hockey goaltender Rachel Symmes posted her second collegiate shutout, making 43 saves in a 3-0 victory over JWU-Providence in non-league play at Conway Arena on Tuesday night. The Raiders moved to 4-2-2 overall while the Wildcats fell to 1-8-0 on the season.

The Raiders started the contest with a quick unassisted goal scored by Jessica Driscoll at 1:16 as she fired home a loose puck in front of the crease.

The Wildcats dominated possession in the second period, but Rivier's Briana Paxson snuck in a goal on a two-on-one opportunity in the final two minutes with the assist credited to Paige Anger.

At 12:06 in the third, Paxson fired in her second goal of the night with helpers from Rebecca McKelvey and Jillian Hallee, putting the Raiders up 3-0 which would hold until the final buzzer.

The Wildcats outshot the Raiders 43-25 but were unable to find the back of the net as Symmes was up to the task on every shot.

Neither team was able to score on the powerplay, with Rivier killing off all four JWU opportunities.

The Raiders return to home ice on Friday, Dec. 1 as they open their series with Albertus Magnus with an 8:00 p.m. puck drop.
