Women’s Hockey Falls Short to Salem State

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier women's hockey team fell just short this evening to Salem State University by a score of 2-1.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/8/2022

- Score: Salem 2, Rivier 1

- Records: Salem (5-15-0), Rivier (1-12-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  All scoring came in the second period tonight. The Vikings would go up 2-0 in the first 15 minutes of the period. Makayla McGrath and Benna Greene put in the two goals for Salem. McGrath's goal came off of a rebound in the crease, while Greene's was a one-time wrist shot from the point that finished just under the crossbar above the tender's stick side shoulder.

Rivier would score the game's last goal to bring it to a one-point difference. Ellie Grady (Kingston, MA) scored the only goal for Rivier at the 16:09 mark. She was able to beat the Viking tender on a fast break stick side in front of the net.

- Maddy Morgan (Rivierside, CA) was tagged with the loss but recorded 35 saves and kept the Raiders within striking distance.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Salem 37, Rivier 5

-  Penalties: Both teams had 10 minutes on 5 infractions.

-  Power Plays: both teams were 0 for 4.
