Women’s Hockey Shutout by Salem

SALEM, MA: The Rivier women's hockey team fell to Salem State this evening in a non-conference bout.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/25/2022

- Score: Salem 2, Rivier 0

- Records: Salem (3-14), Rivier (1-10-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Abby Stafford netted a powerplay score from inside the blue line at the 18:11 mark of the first to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.

- The Vikings defense made the goal stand up, limiting Rivier to just six shots on net. Neither team could generate any offense in the second period, which saw the Vikings outshoot Rivier 9-2.

- Carolyn Mahoney iced the game in the third period, racing in for a loose puck and using her backhand to beat goalie Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, N.J.) at the 11:26 mark of the third. Hinkley tallied 29 saves in net for the Raiders.
