Women’s Basketball Falls to Lasell, 68-61

NASHUA, N.H. – At home court on Wednesday, the Rivier women's basketball team fell to the Lasers of Lasell, 68-61 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, despite Lyric Grumblatt and Anna Stenger's double-doubles. 

The Raiders now sit at 6-12 overall and 4-4 in GNAC matchups, while the Lasers are 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the GNAC.

Consecutively, Rivier and Lasell were tied in the first and second quarters, going into the second half tied 26-26.  

Throughout the third quarter, Riv led Lasell up until the last minute when the Lasers slipped back into the contest. In the fourth quarter, the teams went basket for basket, until the Lasers broke through with just over a minute to play as Shirle Major knocked down a three to make it 64-61. Lasell would go on to hit four free throws down the stretch to pull away.

Grumblatt led the Raiders totaling 23 points and 10 rebounds while Stenger recorded 20 points with 11 rebounds. Alexa Dufries tacked on 15 points and six rebounds.

Kiara Cerruti of the Lasers earned 21 points with seven rebounds to help take home the victory.

Riv outshot Lasell from the free throw line by about 11 percent, while both shooting in the mid-thirties from field goal percentage.

The Raiders will continue their home stretch Saturday, Jan. 27 with a GNAC contest against JWU-Providence in the Muldoon Center tipping off at 12:00 p.m.
