Women’s Basketball Run Ends in GNAC Quarterfinals

STANDISH, ME: The Rivier women's basketball team fell in the GNAC tournament to Saint Joseph's College this evening, ending their eight game winning streak and season.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/23/22

- Score: SJC 88, Rivier 70

- Records: SJC (21-4), Rivier (14-12)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Rivier held the lead after one quarter of play due to Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, NH) going off for 12 of the team's 21 points. However, the Monks would bounce back in the second and go on a huge run, outscoring the Raiders 34-to-10. After the second quarter, SJC took a 21-point lead into the break.

- The second half was very competitive, with the Raiders outscoring the Monks 39-to-36. Unfortunately, the second quarter lead gave St. Joe's all the cushion they needed to come out on top. SJC had four athletes finish with 15 points or more. Jayne Howe tallied 17 points, Grace Philippon had 15, Kaleigh Walsh also added 15 points, and Cassandra Stapelfeld had 24 points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Grumblatt scored a game high 27 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

-  Cassandra Stapelfeld was the top performer for the Monks, finishing the game with 24 points and seven rebounds.

Hannah Muchemore (Nashua, NH) had 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
