Women’s Basketball Downs Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT: The Rivier women's basketball team took down the University of Saint Joseph's in GNAC play this afternoon. The victory marks their first conference win of the season.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/8/2022

- Score: Rivier 71, USJ 70

- Records: USJ (6-5, 2-2), Rivier (5-6, 1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders took a 30 to 28 lead into the half. The closely contested contest saw 20 lead changes and 11 ties throughout. Rivier continues to shoot the deep ball well with 11 made three-pointers this afternoon to give them the advantage.

- The Blue Jays made it close with a 26-point fourth quarter and having the leading for 7:23, but the Raiders scored 25 of their own to keep the one-point advantage, including the winning bucket with just three seconds left by Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, MA). Jordan Ouellette had a solid game for the hosting school with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

- Rivier had two student-athletes score 20+ points in Grumblatt and Alexa Dufries (Leicester, MA). Grumblatt had the game-high with 25 points and six rebounds. Dufries finished with 23 points along with seven boards. Jessica Carrier (Manchester, NH) chipped in six rebounds from the point guard position on top of eight assists.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Rebounds: USJ 52, Rivier 43

-  Turnovers: Rivier 15, USJ 17
