Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Women’s Basketball Over Wellesley

WELLESLEY, MA: The Rivier women's basketball team came back to take down non-conference opponent Wellesley College this afternoon by a score of 72-65.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/13/2021

- Score: Rivier 72, Wellesley 65

- Records: Wellesley (0-2), Rivier (2-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders took a 16-15 lead into the second quarter. Through one, Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, NH) led all scorers with seven points. Anna Stenger (Weare, NH) was second in line for Rivier, with five points coming off the bench, for the Blue Caitlin Windross was on top of the team with four points.

-  The second quarter was all Wellesley, as they scored 20 points compared to 11 for the Raiders. Windross would finish the second with seven points and two rebounds. Cydney Lessard (Auburn, NH) had a four-point quarter to top the team going into the half.

- The third quarter was dead locked between the two teams as they both scored 19 points apiece. Grumblatt got back into her scoring ways finishing with 10 more after the third.

- The fourth quarter is when the Raiders took over after outscoring the hosting team 26 to 11. Grumblatt continued her great performance with another 11 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Stenger added another six points for the Raiders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Grumblatt finished with a game high 31 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

-  Windross had a team high for Wellesley with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

-  Shooting Percentage: Rivier 45.6%, Wellesley 45.5%

- Three-Point Percentage: Rivier 35.3%, Wellesley 27.3%

- Free Throw Percentage: Rivier 77.8%, Wellesley 70.6%

- Rivier women's basketball is back in action next Friday when they travel to Maine Farmington for a two day tournament with Maine Presque Isle. Friday's game is at 7:30 pm.
