Softball Splits with Anna Maria

NASHUA, N.H. The Rivier softball team grabbed the win in game one, 6-0, before dropping game two, 4-2, versus Anna Maria on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Raider Diamond.

Riv now sits at 11-14 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC, with Anna Maria moving to 12-18 on the season and 3-7 in conference play.

The Raiders will face Simmons in a doubleheader tomorrow, April 21 in GNAC play at Daly Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Rivier 6, Anna Maria 0 

It wasn't until the fourth inning when the Raiders got on the board with a sacrifice fly to center field generated by Hayley Rapaglia sending in Kylie Caetano, 1-0 Riv.  

Rivier would score again in the bottom of the fifth from a double launched to right center from Sarah Frazier, pushing Hayleigh Silva and Avry Nelson home, increasing the Raiders lead to 3-0. Following, Christina Panagiotopoulos singled to second base, giving Fraizer enough time to score. Olivia Couto would then ground out to second, allowing Kylee Caetano to cross the plate. Kayla Miles finished up the inning with a sacrifice fly to center, sending Panagiotopoulos home, 6-0 Raiders.  

Fraizer ended game one going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Courtney Marioles threw all seven innings, with one strikeout and only allowing three hits to take the win.

Anna Maria 4, Rivier 2

Rivier would quickly collect two runs in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to an Olivia Couto triple, scoring Christina Panagiotopoulos and Hayleigh Silva.

In the second inning, Ella Moon of Anna Maria singled through the left side, pushing in a run. Later in the inning, the AMCATS pitcher Eden Forget helped herself out by hitting an inside-the-park home run to right field, tallying three RBI to increase their lead to 4-2.  

Couto went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Forget of Anna Maria was tagged with the win, Sydney Greeno of Rivier collected the loss.
