Softball Falls in Extras to Monks

STANDISH, ME: The Rivier softball team fell in the first round of the GNAC tournament to Saint Joseph's College in nine innings.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 5/3/22

- Score: SJC 4, Rivier 3

- Records: SJC (18-16), Rivier (13-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when freshman Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) pushed across the first run on a groundout.

- The Monks would tie then take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. It started with an infield single for Ashley Emery which plated one. Rebecca Fleming followed her up with a two-RBI double to left field to give them a 3-1 lead.

-  Rivier would work their way back and tie it up after one run in the top of the sixth on a sac fly by Giavanna Allsop (Shirley, MA). The tying run would come in the top of the seventh to push the game into extra innings after an infield single by Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH).

- after a scoreless bottom half of the seventh and either, the Monks were able to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth on a Taylor Owen single to left field.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Meredith Pence (W, 9-6) pitched all nine innings for the Monks, allowing nine hits and striking out nine.

-  Fleming topped the offensive production for SJC with two RBIs on one hit. Lydia Goodnough finished with three hits in the game and two runs scored.

-  Miles topped the Raiders offense with three hits in four at bats, along with one RBI.
