Softball Drops Both to St. Joe’s to Open Conference Play

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier softball team fell in both games to Saint Joseph's College this afternoon in conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/2/22

- Score: SJC 5, Rivier 1. G2 SJC 10, Rivier 5

- Records: SJC (6-8, 2-0 GNAC), Rivier (3-13, 0-2 GNAC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Monks got on the board early on, putting up three runs in the top of the first. Olivia Howe singled to left field to plate one. Lydia Goodnough would plate the other two on a triple.

- St. Joe's would tack on one more to make it a 4-0 game in the top of the fourth after Rebecca Fleming hit a double to left.

- The Raiders would put their only run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) single to right field.

- The Monks would add one more to get the final 5-1 in the top of the seventh after Goodnough hit a single to center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Meredith Pence got the win in the circle for the Monks after pitching 5 innings and giving up just 3 hits, and striking out 6.

-  Goodnough led all hitters with 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

-  Frazier led the Raiders offense with 2 hits and an RBI.

GAME TWO:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Monks started right out of the gate again with a three-spot in the top of the first. Howe, Sylvia Foley, and Goodnough all picked up an RBI in the inning. Josie Maggiore (North Hampton, NH) got the Raiders on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a single to right field.

- After plating one in the top of the second, the Monks would go on to plate four more in the top of the third, giving them an 8-1 lead.

- Rivier would get three back, with one coming in the bottom of the third on another Maggiore double to right field. The fourth would see two Raiders come across home to put the score at 8-4. Both would score on a throw down to second on steal attempts.

- Ashley Emery would bat in two more for SJC in the top of the fifth on a double down the left field line. Rivier would plate one more to get the final of 10-5 in the bottom of the seventh on a third Maggiore hit, this time another single to center field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sydney Hatch got the win in the circle for the Monks after pitching 6 innings, allowing 11 hits, and striking out 4.

- Emery was a perfect 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

- Maggiore finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

- Julia Dailey (Dracut, MA) was 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

- Rivier softball will be back tomorrow against Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, at 1 & 3 PM.
