NASHUA, NH: The Rivier softball team swept the visiting non-conference Northern Vermont University Lyndon Hornets this afternoon in non-conference action.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 3/27/22
- Score: Rivier 9, NVU 2. G2 Rivier 5, NVU 1
- Records: Rivier (3-9), NVU (5-5)
GAME ONE:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Game one's scoring started off with a bang in the bottom of the second inning with Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) going yard for the first time in her career. Rivier would end the second up 2-0 after a Micayla Bourski (Pawtucket, RI) single to left field.
- The Hornets would tie it up in the top of the third with one swing of the bat by catcher Claudia Knapp. She would hit a towering home run to right center field.
- After that, the Raiders would go on to plate seven unanswered runs throughout the rest of the contest. Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) came into pitch in the fourth inning and shut down the Hornets by allowing just one hit and striking out eight.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bourski would produce 2 runs for the Raiders on 2 hits.
- Frazier was a solid 2-for-4 with her home run and RBI.
- Knapp plated the only Hornet runs on her 2 run homer.
GAME TWO:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders would jump out to another 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Julia Dailey (Dracut, MA) would start it off with an RBI single to left field, followed by Bourski scoring on a wild pitch.
- Rivier would tack on two more on a Kylie Poisson (Lynn, MA) single to left field.
- Emma Langer (Palatine, IL) would pitch a gem for the Raiders. Throw five innings, the Hornets were held hitless. It eventually was broken up with just eight outs remaining in the top of the sixth. Overall, she allowed just three hits and one earned run.
- The Hornets only run came on a Seairra Anderson double to centerfield.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Poisson had 2 RBIs on 1 hit and 1 run scored.
- Dailey was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- Anderson was responsible for the only NVU run on her double.
