Softball Splits with Fitchburg

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier softball team split two games with Fitchburg this evening. The Raiders took game one on a walk off effort but fell in game two on Raiders Diamond.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/23/22

- Score: Rivier 2, Fitchburg 1. G2: Fitchburg 16, Rivier 5.

- Records: Fitchburg (4-5), Rivier (1-7)

GAME ONE:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons held a 1-0 lead after a solo home run by Audrey Johnson in the second inning until the Raiders were able to get one across in the bottom of the sixth.

Katerina St. Angelo (Johnston, RI) singled to left field to plate Julia Dailey (Dracut, MA), tying it up at 1-1.

- Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) would shut down Fitchburg in the top of the seventh, giving the Raiders a chance to walk it off, which is exactly what they did. Dailey came up again in the bottom of the seventh and laced a line drive into left field, allowing Giavanna Allsop (Bedford, NH) to cross the plate.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Dailey was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

-  Verrette picked up the win (1-3), going all seven innings with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Alicia McKenna (Litchfield, NH) finished with two hits in three at bats.

- Johnson produced the only run for Fitchburg on her home run.

GAME TWO:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Falcons bats would come alive in game two as they racked up 19 hits throughout the contest. They had their biggest inning in the top of the seventh when they put together eight runs on seven hits and three Raider errors.

- Sarah Cahill (W, 3-1) picked up the win in game two after pitching all seven innings with five strikeouts and just three earned runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Morgan Cormier would go 2-for-5 with a team's best 3 RBIs.

- Julia Gauvin picked up 3 hits, scored 3 times, and batted in 2.

- Nicole Capra (Windham, NH) was a perfect 4-for-4 in game two along with scoring twice.

UP NEXT:

- Rivier softball will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Gordon for games at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
