Softball Drops Two in Florida

CLERMONT, FL: The Rivier softball team dropped two games today. First, they fell in a five-inning contest to Concordia of Chicago 17-0. Then game two, they fell to Wentworth 3-2 in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/11/22

- Score: G1: Concordia 17, Rivier 0. G2 Wentworth 3, Rivier 2

- Records: Concordia (4-4), Wentworth (6-1), Rivier (0-6)

Game One: Concordia

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders were unable to score in the contest, picking up just two hits in the five innings. Alicia McKenna (Litchfield, NH) and Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) tallied the only two hits of the game.

- Concordia had two big six-run innings in the second and third. They racked up 18 hits, with Carole Ross leading the way with three hits and three RBIs. Ashley Shroll also gathered three hits while batting in two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Ross went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

-  Shroll was also 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

-  Shroll also pitched a shutout for Concordia going 5 innings with just two hits allowed and 8 strikeouts.

Game Two: Wentworth

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders quickly jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning. Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) would pick up the team's first RBI of the day on a squeeze play to take the 1-0 lead. Josie Maggiore (North Hampton, NH) would hit in the next Rivier run one batter later on a single to right field.

-  Erin Hancock, Wentworth's pitcher, would settle in after the first inning and shut the Raiders out the rest of the game, giving her team a chance to come back and take the lead. It wasn't until the fifth inning when they overtook Rivier. It started with an RBI triple by Kaitlin Pettenger to bring the score to 2-1. Briana Beverley wouldn't leave Pettenger on base for long as she hit a sacrifice fly to plate the tying run. Wentworth would take the lead and ultimately the game just a few batters later, on a fielding error by the Raiders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Pettenger was a solid 2-for4 with an RBI and run scored this afternoon.

-  Alexandra Pina also finished going 2-for-4, scoring once.

-  Maggiore was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

UP NEXT:

- Rivier softball will be back on the 19th when they take on Lesley in non-conference action on Raider Diamond at 1 and 3 PM.
