Softball Falls in Extras to Open Season

LEESBURG, FL: The Rivier softball team fell in extra innings this afternoon to Saint Joseph's College to open their 2022 season.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/6/22

- Score: SJC 5, Rivier 4

- Records: SJC (1-0), Rivier (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Monks would start the scoring in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI single by Amaya Dacier. The monks would plate one more on the play after an error in center field to go up 2-0.

- The Raiders would get one back in the top of the third on an Alicia McKenna (Litchfield, NH) infield single to bring their deficit to just one. However, St. Joe's would get their lead back to two the following inning on another Raider error to go up 3-1.

- Rivier would tie the game up in the fifth inning after two RBI singles from Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, MA) and Josie Maggiore (N. Hampton, NH).

- Now knotted up at 3-3, the Raiders would tack on one more in the top of the sixth to get their first lead of the ball game. Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) would deliver the go ahead RBI single through the right side to plate the team's fourth run.

- The Monks didn't let the loss of the lead deter them, however, and they would go on to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Emma Hodgkins would score in the seventh on another Raiders error to bring the score to 4-4.

- SJC would walk it off in the bottom of the eighth on an Olivia Howe sacrifice fly to get the final of 5-4.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Maggiore would lead the Raiders offense going 3-for-4 in the contest with an RBI.  

-  McKenna also picked up multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

-  Howe had the big RBI on the day to give her team the win as well as having two hits on the day. She finished the ball game going 2-for-4.

- Rivier softball will be playing John Carrol and Alvernia Tuesday at 3:15 PM and 5:30 PM.
