Men’s Volleyball Downed by No. 4 Springfield and Saint Joseph’s (Long Island)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Rivier men's volleyball team was defeated by No. 4 Springfield and Saint Joseph's (Long Island) in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Blake Arena.

The Raiders fell to the Pride by set scores of 21-25, 22-25, 13-25 and then to the Golden Eagles 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 14-25.

Next up, Rivier is set to host the top-ranked Wentworth Leopards in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.

Springfield 3, Rivier 0

Isaac Borges and Sokunbuth Ly each recorded six kills in the setback to the Pride, who were ranked fourth in the nation in the latest AVCA/NVA Division III National Poll. Neil Rea had 17 assists and five digs, both marks being the top on the squad. This marked a season series sweep for the Pride, with the first win coming back in late January in Nashua.

Saint Joseph's 3, Rivier 0

After narrowly falling in the opening set, Rivier bounced back in the second with 17 kills at a .577 clip to even up the match. From there, the Golden Eagles would stymie the Raiders' offense over the final two sets, limiting them to a .018 team hitting percentage.

Isaac Borges was the life of the offense in the four-set defeat, notching a team-high 15 kills at a .476 clip while recording four digs and four blocks. Neil Rea passed out 42 assists as the Raiders hammered home 47 kills. Sokunbuth Ly led the team with nine digs, followed behind by Matthew Diamond who registered eight.
