Volleyball Splits the Day Against Dean and Lasell

NEWTON, MA: The Rivier volleyball team picked up their tenth GNAC win this afternoon by taking down Dean College. The Raiders would also fall in their second match of the day against Lasell University.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/27/22

- Score: Rivier 3, Dean 0: Sets (25-7, 25-14, 25-16). M2 Lasell 3, Rivier 2: Sets (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-7).

- Records: Lasell (16-8, 10-2 GNAC), Rivier (13-8, 10-2 GNAC), Dean (1-18, 0-11 GNAC)

MATCH ONE: DEAN

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders made quick work of the Bulldogs in each set. Overall, Rivier's hitting percentage was a solid .402 as a team. Thomas Miller (Clifton Park, NY) and Ryan Peace (Goffstown, NH) led the way for the offense. Both tallied eight kills in the match, with Peace not committing a single error for a .889 hitting percentage.

Neil Rea (Windham, NH) was at the setter position for this one racking up 24 assists, aiding in the Raiders overall 34 kills to the Bulldogs seven.

- Jake Kelley and Traijan Powell led the offense for Dean with three kills each.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Peace was perfect on the day with 8 kills and 0 errors for a .889 hitting percentage.

-  Rea ended with 24 assists, 4 kills, and 2 digs.

-  Rivier racked up 15 service aces to Deans 3.

MATCH TWO: LASELL

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- This match was very closely contested throughout. The Raiders would take the advantage 1-0 early after Lasell struggled not to commit errors. Service and attacking errors made the difference giving the Raiders the 25-20 victory.

- Set two saw the exact opposite. Rivier would commit nine attacking errors in the set to Lasell's two. The Raiders did, however, have 11 kills to the Lasers seven.

- The third set saw the Raiders bounce back with 11 kills and just five errors to Lasell's 12 kills and eight errors.

- The fourth set saw Rivier outperform the Lasers in kills with 14 compared to eight. However, Riv committed 13 attack errors giving Lasell the edge to push the match to the fifth set.

-  The struggles continued on the offensive side for the Raiders as they committed eight more errors to just two kills. Lasell almost flipped those numbers as they ended the match with seven kills and just two errors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- David Smith (Clinton, OH) had a team high of 17 kills and 12 digs.

- Sokunbuth Ly (Lowell, MA) had a 15 kill match with 11 digs.

- Jordan Shinaut and Brenden Joyce both finished with 17 kills for the Lasers.

- Rivier men's volleyball will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Colby-Sawyer for a 7:00 PM match.
