Smith Picks Up Kill Number 1,000 in Win Over Nichols

DUDLEY, MA: The Rivier men's volleyball team defeated Nichols College this afternoon, a very even bought in five sets. This marks the Raiders seventh straight win so far, this young season.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/5/22

- Score: Rivier 3, Nichols 2: Sets (25-27, 25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 15-8)

- Records: Rivier (8-6), Nichols (9-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Bison were able to take set one by a narrow margin as they got their offense going early. They finished the set with 17 kills to the Raiders 13.

- The Second set was perfectly even between the two teams with 11 kills and seven errors each. The Raiders were able to pull it out on a Nichols service error followed by a David Smith (Clinton, OH) service ace.

- The Bison came back in the third set, tallying another 11 kills to Rivier's 10. The difference in the set was the errors committed by the Raiders. They had eight compared to Nichols with just two.

- Rivier would put the next two sets together to close it out in five behind the setting of Pedro Campos (Downey, CA) and the right arm of Smith. Campos dished out 39 assists, also leading the team's defense with 12 digs. Smith finished with a match high 25 kills and eight digs.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Smith tallied 25 kills, eight digs, and two service aces. He also picked up his 1,000th kills of his career.

-  Campos finished with 39 assists, 12 digs, and six kills.

-  Tanner Soracco had a big match for the Bison with 21 kills and five digs.

UP NEXT:

- Rivier men's volleyball will be back in action Thursday the 17th when they travel to Elms College for their second match up at 7:00 PM.
