Men’s Volleyball Falls to MIT and Stevens

CAMBRIDGE, MA: The Rivier men's volleyball team fell in both matches this afternoon. They were defeated by #6 Stevens 3-1 with sets scores of 23-25, 25-23, 26-28, 23-25. Then, they fell 3-1 to MIT in their second matchup this season 3-1, with set scores of 10-25, 20-25, 25-21, 19-25.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/5/2022

- Score: Rivier 1, Stevens and MIT 3

- Records: Rivier (1-3), MIT (5-1), Stevens (8-0)

Match one: Stevens

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Match one was a closely contested contest between the two teams. Stevens Narrowly beat out the Raiders on the three sets. Rivier put up great offensive numbers beating our Stevens 53 to 48 in kills.  

- Both teams struggled to find a groove as they both committed numerous errors on the offensive side. Stevens had 26 errors, while Rivier had 31.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  David Smith (Clinton, OH) had the game high in kills with 18.

-  Jack Normandin (Clifton Park, NY) had 17 kills along with nine digs.

-  Pedro Campos (Downey, CA) had a great day setting with 43 assists.

Match two: MIT

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Match two started as a struggle for the Raiders as they were only able to put together 10 points in set one. They did, however, bounce back quickly with a much closer second set and winning the third set. They would, however, fall short in the fourth 19-25.   

-  The Engineers outhit the Raiders 48 kills to 39, for a hitting percentage of .305 (48-105) to Rivier .084 (39-119). They would also defend slightly better with 40 digs to the Raiders 32.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  David Smith (Clinton, OH) had the team high in kills with 14.

-  Jack Normandin (Clifton Park, NY) had 13 kills.

-  Pedro Campos (Downey, CA) had 36 assists.

- Rivier men's volleyball will be back in action Thursday at home against GNAC opponent Wentworth at 7 PM.
