Men’s Soccer Narrowly Falls to Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. — The Rivier men's soccer team lost to Anna Maria 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon on the road at Caparso Field.

At 10:48 in the first half, Rubelsi Moran of the AMCATS (2-6-1, 2-5-1 GNAC) dashed past the Riv defenders to float in an unassisted goal.

Produced by a free kick, Mitchell Ward flawlessly completed a bicycle kick off the crossbar and into the goal to score a Rivier (2-7-4, 2-5-3 GNAC) goal with less than a minute to play in the first, tying things up at 1-1.

Anna Maria's Moran headed in his second goal of the contest in the 72nd minute, to regain the lead, which would hold until the end of regulation, boosting the AMCATS to their second victory of the season.

Rivier outshot Anna Maria by one, 13 to 12, also gaining seven corner kicks to the AMCATS' three.

Dominic Cunha of the Raiders made six saves this afternoon in net in his return to the pitch.

Rivier will take on Saint Joseph's (Me.) in GNAC play at home on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with kick-off set for 5:00 p.m.
