Antonelli’s Late Goal Sends Men’s Soccer Past Elms, 1-0

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's soccer team snuck by the Blazers of Elms for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) 1-0 victory on Tuesday evening at home on Merrill Field.

The Raiders (2-5-4, 2-4-3 GNAC) and Blazers (2-8-1, 2-6-1 GNAC) remained scoreless after 45 minutes of action despite several chances per side.

Generated by a Rivier free kick, graduate student Chris Antonelli settled the ball in the box and finally broke the deadlock when he found the back of the net, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead with less than eight minutes to play.

In the final minute of the game, Elms had their last opportunity to score, in which goalkeeper, Collin Liedke connected with the Raiders goalpost off a free kick, ending the match.

Rivier outshot Elms 16 to 10 and earned six corner kicks to the Blazers' two.

Riv goalkeeper Sean Seeley received his first collegiate shutout, making four saves in the triumph.

The Raiders are back on home turf on Thursday evening, facing Fisher in non-conference play and celebrating Rep Your Flag Day with a start time of 5:00 p.m.
